Relief Print Portraits
Assignment
Your assignment is to create a reduction relief print portriat. You will need to include two colors + white. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of planar analysis and directional mark making. You will need to create at least 4 total prints.

Students will understand the planes of the face and design their relief accordingly
Students will be able to inversely apply value
Students will understand the process of relief printing
Students will understand the process of reduction printing
Students will be able to register or align their prints

Planar Analysis/Directional Mark Making

Students will illustrate the planes of a form
Students will understand the direction that a form moves through space
Directions:
1. Watch the video provided on planar analysis
2. Create two drawings- one of a simple apple or sphere. The other of a more complex form found on the still life wall
2. Illustrate the planes of the form using straight lines and flat shapes

Directions:
Choose a reference photo with dramatic contrast of lighting
Transfer the edges of the Image onto black paper using carbon transfer paper

Requirements:
Your assignment is to create a reduction print portrait
You will need to include a minimum of 2 colors + white in your design
You will need to create a directional mark pattern that considers the planes of the face
You should create 4+ copies.

Directions:
Print and trace outlines of the face
Draw in planar analysis of the face
Hatch in directional mark making and desired pattern
Step 3: Color
Directions:
Use your directional mark making map and colored markers. Pick out which colors you plan on using in the design.
