Foreshortened Figures
Objectives:
- I can draw a figure proportionally
- I can draw a figure from an extreme perspective
- I can create a composition using foreshortening
- I can select a media that enhances my idea and design
What is foreshortening?
Foreshortening in a figure drawing or painting affects the proportions of the limbs and the body. If you are painting a person lying on their back with their feet facing towards you, you would paint their feet larger than their head to capture the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality.

Requirements:
- Composition needs to include a figure(s) from a dramatic perspective.
- Figure(s) need to how foreshortening
- Media of choice for this drawing. Options include but are not limited to; graphite, colored pencils, chalk pastels, charcoal, paint, or ink.
- Meaning needs to be considered. Who are you drawing? What does the position of the figure say about what they are doing? Is this something you can relate to in some way? Is this something what society can relate to in some way?
- Artist statement needs to accompany the work.
