Life Drawing
Assignment
The goal of this assignment is for you to practice OBSERVATIONAL DRAWING or drawing from life. You can select your subject but you should be able to look at the subject in front of you while drawing it. You should not look up an image online to copy, but rather sit and draw what you see in front of you. The final drawing should take you at least 1 hour- 1:30 min. You can choose the materials from the list provided.
Examples and Types of Life Drawing
Still life- Draw inanimate objects from around your environment. Create a composition of an object(s) that you want to draw.
Portrait Drawing- create a drawing of yourself or someone in your house. Remember this should be from life, not a photograph.
Landscape- Create a drawing of an outdoor space of your choice. This should be from life, not from a photo.
Week 1: Planning and Preparation
Create a sketch of what you will draw from life. Consider composition and materials you want to use. Upload an image of your sketch to the planning assignment on Google Classroom.

Week 2: Creation
If you haven't started already, now you should be working on the final drawing. Make sure you have selected a subject that you can draw from life. This drawing should take you at least 1 hour- 1:30 min to complete. It should be a full page size. Feel free to spend more time if you can. Upload an image to Google Classroom and answer the reflection questions. Remember to use the strategies for photographing your work because that will be part of your grade.
