Pierced Enamel Piece
Assignment
Requirements:
1. Design and create a jewelry piece out of a piece of copper.
2. You can make a pendant, earrings, key chain, or other, but metal piece should have a function.
3. Metal needs to be pierced in at least two locations.
4. Jewelry piece needs to be enameled with at least one color.
5. Jewelry pieced should be finished with no jagged edges or scratches
Objectives:
Students will review piercing and sawing metal
Students will learn to clean enamel
Students will learn the process of enameling and counter enameling
Students will learn the safety of using enamel and the enamel kiln
In Class Practice
Planning & Design:
Sketches 10 points
1. Create 5 sketches of jewelry designs.
2. You need at least 2 pierced points
3. Color in black the areas that you want to cut out.
4. Make sure that all white areas (metal) connect in some way.
5. Make sure you have a balance of positive and negative space in your design.
6. Color in positive space with your enamel color of choice

Process:
How to Enamel (basics)
1. Clean metal.
2. Amacote to protect areas of the copper you do not want enameled. Let dry.
3. Paint a coat of "Klyr-Fyre" as a bonding agent on the areas where you want the enamel to stick.
4. Sift enamel over the Klyr-Fyre
5. Place on trivet into the kiln for 2-3 minutes at 1450 degrees
6. Let cool on fire proof surface like the ceramic tray.
