Tattooed Banana
Assignment
This assignment is to create a drawing and learn to "tattoo" it onto a banana. You transfer the drawing to the banana using a needle or pin and the banana oxidizes a darker color where you poke it. It is a very cool process that combines art and science. It is really fun, give it a shot!
Examples
Week 1: Planning and Preparation
Create a sketch of your tattoo design. Trace a banana so that you know how much space you are working with. Draw your design and upload an image of your sketch to Google Classroom on the reflection assignment.
Watch the direction video so that you understand the process.
Week 2: Tattooing the Banana
Directions:
1. Tape your sketch onto the banana.
2. Poke through all of the main lines of your drawing with a pin or needle. KEEP THE HOLES CLOSE TOGETHER!
3. Remove the sketch and go over all of your lines again and also add value and texture.
Techniques:
Stippling- using small dots to build up color and value.
To create darker areas in your drawing, poke more hole closer together and it will appear darker. It will be easier to draw this on a paper first.
Hatching/Cross Hatching- Using parallel lines or crossed lines to build up color and value.
To create darker areas in your drawing, scratch more lines closer together and it will appear darker. It will be easier to draw this on paper first.
