Seed Pod Project

Assignment

Objectives:

  • I can design a seed pod that comes from an imaginary plant.
  • I can create a prototypes of seed pods from this imaginary plant.
  • I can create a hollow form.
  • I can manipulate a hollow form to create a refined form.
  • I can just the additive process and subtractive process to create texture.

Project Requirements:

  1. Minimum 2 lbs clay to start (1 lb per pinch pot)
  2. Successful joining of pinch pots to seal in air
  3. Hollow 'clay balloon' is manipulated in form so that it no longer resembles "Mr. Potato Head" (subtractive, paddling, etc.)
  4. Evidence of a minimum of two different, deep textures affecting the surface
  5. Consideration of presentation (self-supporting, hanging, suspended, etc.)
  6. Air is allowed to escape for kiln firing (you must create a hole in the seal to allow air to escape or piece will explode!)
