In Class Practice
Upside Down Picasso Drawing - 10 points
Turn the Picasso drawing print out upside down!
Carefully draw each of the contour lines.
Try to look and the length of the lines and the space between them.
Contour Line Hands - 10 points
Draw your hand 3 times using contour lines!
Try your best not to lift up your pencil
re-position your hand 3 times with no vulgar hand positions
Contour Line Shoe- 10 points
Draw your shoe or a shoe off of the still life wall. The shoe you choose should be detailed.
Draw lightly at first
Move AROUND the paper to get proportions
find simple shapes first
Draw from the general to the more specific
Still Life Practice - 10 points
Practice drawing multiple still life objects using organizational lines and sketching.
Do not go in with contour lines until the proportions are better.
Begin with GENERAL shapes before adding specific details.

Extended Contour Line Still Life Drawing
Your assignments is to create a multiple day still life drawing using contour lines. You need to create a still life that represents you, with objects your are interested in.

Materials
Pencil bag - Graded pencils - see chart for what the letter/numbers mean
Sketchbook
Large drawing paper
Still life objects
Process
Step 1: Setting up a Still Life Arrangement
Still life photo resources:
Collect at least 10 items.
Find objects with different shapes and sizes.
Look for objects with interesting details and texture.
Still life should be at multiple levels and angles.
Objects should have overlap.
Choose fairly simple background.
Step 2: Creating a Dynamic Composition Using Thumbnail Sketches- 10 points
In your sketchbook create 5 thumbnail sketches of different croppings of the still life.
Step 3: Using Organizational Lines + Sketch
Begin with horizontal and vertical lines. Add in diagonal lines
Establish height and width of all objects and background shapes
Allow lines to penetrate through other objects to help develop their relative proportion to other objects and space
LIGHTLY sketch general still life shapes. Continue making adjustments until the size and shape if each part look accurate. NO DETAILS at this stage.

Line weight can do a number of things for a drawing including:
Making the drawing more interesting and dynamic.
Create volume
Add depth
Where to add line weight:
Objects that are closer to you are darker and bolder
Areas of shadow or opposite of the light
